Book 2 in my trilogy Of the Wing is finally complete and has been sent to reviewers. Here's hoping they enjoy The Ivory-billed Obsession.
I began writing book 2 in the fall of 2008, directly after publishing The Legend Awakes. To complete it took two research trips to Arkansas, communicating with experts who searched for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker, and two and a half years of writing. Of course, I write only about two or three hours a day, early in the morning, which isn't too strenuous. But writing isn't the only thing I do. For instance, to promote my trilogy, I maintain a Facebook page (search Of the Wing), two blogs (including this one), and a trilogy web site (www.ofthewing.com). I send out flyers to libraries, arrange school promotions and visits, update institutional databases specific to books in print and sales, and the list goes on. In fact, I spend full days in my home office working just like I used to when employed by Penn State. Only difference is I don't have to commute (or get up so early--a nice perk to be sure).
And I'm certainly NOT complaining. There's nothing better than pursuing and promoting your own private passions. For me these include birds and writing, so writing a trilogy about a young girl's mystical tie to birds is my ideal. And I can only hope that readers will enjoy the stories I tell.
Look for Of the Wing: The Ivory-billed Obsession this July at most major online bookstores. Or ask your local bookstore to carry it.
I've a lot of book promoting ahead in the coming months, not to mention--writing book 3!
Till next time . . .
Georgia Anne
